Well according to a ground breaking study of how Spirulina Benefits You and your children it was recently revealed researchers had found that after supplementing the diets of 1,567 school children with only one gram of Spirulina per day for a 6 month period they observed a massive 81% average improvement in the students’ academic scores.

Well this is hardly surprising considering that Spirulina contains very high amounts of GLA which is an essential fatty acid that is found only in mother’s milk. This GLA plays a very vital role in balancing the hormonal system in your children’s body making it actually very good to give Spirulina to your children to help them in brain building as well as feeding their nervous system. This means in simple terms that Spirulina is the fuel that will boost your child’s overall development and growth.

The dosage of Spirulina for your children is to give them half of what is recommended for adults. However for your teenage children they can take the dosage close to that of an adult.  Note:  It is recommended not to give your children Spirulina close to bedtime as it can cause sleeplessness which you should also bear in mind for yourself.  So give your child a nutritious smoothie and help them grow smart, fit and healthy.

History of Spirulina

Spirulina is a planktonic green-blue algae super food and was a food source for the Aztecs and other Mesoamericans until the 16th century. Most cultivated Spirulina is produced in open-channel raceway ponds with paddle-wheels used to agitate the water. The largest commercial producers of Spirulina are located in the United States Thailand India Taiwan China Pakistan and Chile.

As I said earlier Spirulina is a natural food source and listed below in brief are some of the many benefits you will find by choosing to make Spirulina a part of your daily diet.

Firstly Spirulina has a high amount of protein about 60 making it one of the most protein rich foods on this beautiful planet. It contains more protein than beef or eggs and is a complete protein. Spirulina also contains so many vitamins and minerals ie. zinc iron copper beta-carotene Vitamin E and Vitamin B to name a few that it makes it the perfect choice for people seeking to become healthier. In fact 1kg of Spirulina contains as many nutrients as 1000kg of various vegetables. Now isn’t that reason enough to make it part of your daily diet.

Secondly because Spirulina contains very little sugar or carbs and protein packed means Spirulina acts as a very effective appetite suppressant due to its many nutrients being so quickly absorbed by your body. When combined with other natural weight loss products like green tea Spirulina is effective at assisting you with your weight loss goals.

Thirdly Spirulina is well-known for its benefit in managing cholesterol levels both by lowering bad cholesterol and raising good cholesterol.

Fourthly it is an energy enhancer way better than coffee or chocolate though I must say that I myself still do enjoy my morning brewed coffee and the occasional chocolate. It is due to the glycogen content that when Spirulina Powder is dissolved into water it becomes very easy for the body to assimilate it. This makes it great for those workouts as has been advocated by many fitness experts who have claimed that by taking Spirulina as a workout supplementation it brings on quick recovery and muscle building.

Fifthly what I found very interesting and close to my heart is that apparently Spirulina being high in antioxidants it is a good anti-aging food as it improves your skin and keeps you looking young. It also is good for improving your eyesight health and vision due to its Beta Carotene content.

Sixthly it boosts your immune system. When I did my research into why Spirulina Benefits You I was so impressed with what I discovered that I bought myself a jar of it. I desire to lose weight have youthful skin more energy and improve my eyesight. I will keep you posted on my own personal experience by taking Spirulina Powder daily.

spirulina benefits you

Department of Food Science and Nutrition stated that by taking Spirulina Benfits You when taking it daily in our diets, resulted in very significant beneficial effects in weight reduction.  This was due to its high content of all essential and non-essential amino acids including L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine, which directly influences the levels of neurotransmitters in our brain which controls our appetite.

To use Spirulina as your weight loss formula, all you need to do is either take it in powder form by adding 1 heaped teaspoon of Spirulina in water or freshly squeezed juice one hour before your meal time.  Or if you prefer tablets then take 2-3 tablets also one hour before your meals.  This then will make you feel satisfied, which will drastically reduce you over-eating.

Note that tablets take a little more time to assimilate in your body than powder.  So try and plan ahead when you know when you are going to be hungry to prevent you from giving into your sugar and/or junk food cravings as Spirulina is known to curb these kind of cravings.  Note from author: I can say this with confidence as I have been taking Spirulina powder and I was totally amazed at how much my sugar cravings have been reduced and how less I eat daily.

It is amazing how this green super whole food can help satisfy your body’s appetite. What is so great about it is that it is not a suppressant as such as it contains no drugs or chemicals that trick the body. It is simply a concentrated, easily digested natural nutritional whole food.   For you dieters out there it is important to note that Spirulina is rich in iron which is often found deficient in mainly women on low calorie diets.

Because everyone’s metabolism and biochemistry are different, your weight loss results may differ from others. It is best to lose weight slow and steady and if you want to strengthen your diet program, increase the amount of nutrient rich Spirulina slowly in your diet plan in order to eat lighter meals. Note however that it is important to eat regular nutritious meals and NOT skip meals.

So go ahead and try Spirulina and find out for yourself how Spirulina Benefits You in your weight loss goals.

More research is needed to determine the usefulness that Spirulina has against AIDS and other killer diseases, however, it is already clear that this safe and natural food provides concentrated nutritional support for optimum health and wellness.

spirulina benefits you

Today, while commercial farms grow Spirulina as a health food for millions of people around the world, lake harvesting and village-scale farms are being developed in under-developed countries in Asia, Africa and South America which enable them to produce food and create employment opportunities for their local community.

Spirulina requires less land and water than other protein foods eg. soya beans, and can grow in hot climates where other crops cannot. By using appropriate technology, they address needs of waste treatment, soil and water quality, reforestation and food production, offering a framework for the revival of the environment and the economy of villages and entire regions.

Areas of chronic malnutrition are most common in the arid tropics and subtropics. Here, diets are high in carbohydrates and sugars, but low in protein, certain vitamins and minerals. Spirulina thrives best in these locations, and is a perfect complement to their typical diet. It speeds recovery from malnutrition and it is more digestible than other plant, dairy or meat products. This is important for victims of malnutrition with poor ability to digest food.

Each day, 40,000 children die of malnutrition and related diseases. To think that just one tablespoon a day would offer remarkable health benefits to them.

The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva has confirmed:

Spirulina represents an interesting food for multiple reasons, and it is able to be administered to children without any risk. We at WHO consider it a very suitable food.”

This then brings hope for the world’s children as Spirulina offers remarkable health benefits to an undernourished person. Its rich beta carotene can overcome eye problems caused by Vitamin A deficiency. The protein and B-vitamin complex makes a major nutritional improvement in an infant’s diet. It’s the only food source, except mother’s milk, containing substantial amounts of an essential fatty acid, GLA, which helps regulate the entire hormone system.

One tablespoon a day can eliminate iron anaemia, the most common mineral deficiency. Spirulina is the most digestible protein food, especially important for malnourished people whose intestines can no longer absorb nutrients effectively. Clinical studies have shown it helps rebuild healthy intestinal flora. These health benefits have made it an excellent food for rapid recovery of children from malnutrition related diseases in under-developed poor countries like Mexico, Togo, Romania, China, Rwanda, Zaire, India, Ukraine and Belarus.
